NewsState of Maryland Awards $74,730 To Mirari Biosciences To Commercialize MASC™ Technology Rockville, MD – November 1, 2005 - The Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) has awarded Mirari Biosciences, Inc. with $74,730 under TEDCO's Maryland Technology Transfer Fund (MTTF) program. Funding will be used to support the development of Mirari's Microwave-Accelerated Surface Chemistry™ (MASC™) technology in cooperation with the National Cancer Institute (NCI, Bethesda, MD). Mirari is currently working with the NCI-Frederick under a Collaboration Agreement, which enables Mirari and NCI to join forces to uses MASC™ technology to develop proprietary antibody-based cancer diagnostic tests. MASC™ is a proprietary technology solely owned by Mirari that utilizes mild microwaves to greatly enhance biological testing. TEDCO funding will accelerate the Mirari-NCI collaboration and may lead to new diagnostic and prognostic tests valuable in the treatment of cancer and other serious diseases. TEDCO (www.MarylandTEDCO.org) was established by the Maryland General Assembly to facilitate the creation of businesses and foster their growth through the development and transfer of technology. TEDCO, a specialized technology transfer arm of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, connects emerging technology companies with federal laboratories, research universities, business incubators, and specialized technical assistance. For the second consecutive year, TEDCO was recognized as the leading backer of seed and early stage companies in the country, according to a 2004 survey published in the July 2005 issue of Entrepreneur Magazine. |
