The National Institutes of Health Awards $200,000 SBIR Grant To Mirari Biosciences To Develop Microwave-Enhanced Proteomics Testing

Rockville, MD – April 10, 2006 - Mirari Biosciences won a $200,000 Phase I SBIR grant by NIH's National Institute of General Medical Sciences (Bethesda, MD) to develop Mirari's proprietary MASC™ technology to accelerate proteomics testing of health-related proteins. Proteomics is the study of the vast "landscape" of all of the proteins in a given cell type, biological fluid, or organism. MASC, or Microwave-Accelerated Surface Chemistry™ exploits mild microwaves to accelerate and enhance protein-based tests called immunoassays. The funding may lead to rapid and convenient simultaneous measurement of hundreds or thousands of protein molecules. The grant is an important stepping-stone on the road to commercializing MASC™ technology and will enable Mirari to develop new and novel instruments and tests.
