NewsMirari Biosciences Files Microwave Microfluidics U.S. Patent Application Rockville, MD – October 17, 2005 - Mirari Biosciences announced it has filed a U.S. patent application disclosing a breakthrough microfluidics technology. Microfluidics, which involves the controlled movement and mixing of extremely small volumes of liquid, is rapidly growing in importance in drug development and other branches of biomedicine where rapid tests are required on small samples. Mirari's invention, called Microwave Microfluidics, uses mild microwave energy to move fluids instead of conventional means, which usually involve sophisticated pumps or electrical stimulation. Fluid movement in Microwave Microfluidics is greatly simplified because microwave power is a "non-contact" means of moving targeted fluids on disposable labchips. The invention eliminates the necessity of sophisticated mechanical parts. |
